The Task Force on the Water-Food-Energy-Ecosystems Nexus, with Finland as the lead Party, is responsible for activities related to the water-food-energy-ecosystems nexus and water allocation, which are part of the programme of work of the Water Convention for 2019-2021.
The work of the Task Force seeks to address, through improved understanding, problems related to low coherence and a lack of integration between sectoral policies, which result in negative impacts on the status of shared waters. The aim of the nexus assessment is to identify intersectoral synergies that could be further explored and utilized in selected transboundary river basins, and to identify policy measures and actions that could reduce tensions between sectoral objectives, avoid unintended consequences of resource management and resolve trade-offs between sectors. Such efforts support long term water-food-energy security and a transition to a green economy.
The Task Force brings together the concerned sectors representing the Parties and non-Parties to guide and oversee the assessment work.
