The workshop, which gathered about 35 participants from different ministries, donors, international organizations, research institutes and NGOs introduced different legal frameworks for transboundary water cooperation and detailed the obligations of the UNECE Water Convention and the benefits of becoming a Party, combined with examples of its implementation on the ground.

It was decided that an inter-ministerial committee would explore in depth the relevance of acceding to the UNECE Water Convention in the specific Jordanian context after the workshop, as a basis for a national decision on whether to join the Convention.

The workshop was co-organized by UNECE, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation of Jordan, the International Hydrological Programme (IHP) of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Global Water Partnership - Mediterranean (GWP-Med), with financial support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
