Seventy-fourth session of the ECE Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry

The 74th session of the ECE Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry (COFFI) was held in Geneva, Switzerland from 18 to 20 October 2016.

The Committee reviewed and guided activities in data collection and analysis, policy support, capacity building and communication. In addition, the meeting had focus on the commercial aspects of the forest based industries (transformation, profits, trends, challenges, etc.). Half a day was dedicated to market discussions of forest-based industries. Additional themes were for this session included review of the results of the work on forest ownership and green jobs in the region.

The Committee was also invited to contribute to the Strategic Review of the Integrated Programme of Work 2014-2017 and provided recommendations for the future programme (2018-2021). Next year the 70th anniversary of UNECE as well as 70 years of successful collaboration between COFFI (former Timber Committee) and the FAO European Forestry Commission (EFC) will be celebrated.

The COFFI session was conducted in English, French and Russian.
