Side event at the 14th United Nations Forum on Forests on the state of forests of the Caucasus and Central Asia took place on the 7 May 2019 in the Conference Room 4, United Nations HQ. Meeting was moderated by Mr. Keith Anderson, Senior Advisor, International Forest Policy, Swiss Federal Office for the Environment. Three main topics were discussed at the side event.
- State of Forests of the Caucasus and Central Asia.
- Country overviews of Armenia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
- Forest Landscape Restoration activities in region.
State of Forests of the Caucasus and Central Asia was presented at the side event by the lead author, Kit Prins. The publication is the first ever overview of forests in the region compiled in one document that attempts to cover all dimensions of sustainable forest management in the region. It presents the forest resources and the forest sector of the region (including trends and pressures on this resource), describes the policies and institutions for the forest sector and lists the major challenges. In addition, it describes the policy responses in place or planned. The study provides individual forests and forest sector overviews for all eight countries, prepared by the main author in close collaboration with national experts. Read more...
