On 1 March, the Special Envoy spoke at the East Africa Injury Symposium co-hosted by John Hopkins International Injury Research Unit and Makerere University School of Public Health. In his speech, the Special Envoy briefed the audience on the road safety performance review in Uganda as well introduced some regional statistics on road safety. Highlighting increasing urbanization and vehicle ownership, the Special Envoy called for a strong political commitment and encouraged to take necessary action on the global, regional and national levels to reduce road traffic fatalities.
Furthermore, the Special Envoy provided an overview of the United Nations Road Safety Trust Fund with its goal to catalyze necessary investments at levels necessary to achieve global targets.
