Final round table on enforcement of environmental assessment systems in Kazakhstan in line with the Espoo Convention and its Protocol on SEA

The final round table was held under the framework of the project “Supporting Kazakhstan’s Transition to a Green Economy Model”, implemented with the funding from the EU Commission, and with additional support from the OSCE Programme Office in Astana and the Government of Switzerland.

The activity’s agenda envisaged the international best practices presentation and wider discussions under the recently developed SEA and EIA amendments to the Environmental Code of Kazakhstan, relevant sectoral legislation and the SEA by-laws.

The agenda also accommodated the presentation of the SEA report with recommendations for the revision of the Concept of the Republic of Kazakhstan for development of fuel and energy complex until 2030. The conclusions from the round table will be taken into consideration to further foster and support the SEA and EIA legal and institutional reform in Kazakhstan.

The event gathered up to 100 participants, representatives of the governmental agencies including the line Ministries of Energy, Health Protection and Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, international consultants and national experts, academia, private and non-governmental organizations.
