85th session of the Committee on Urban Development, Housing and Land Management

02 October (10:00) - 04 October (18:00) 2024
Palais des Nations Geneva Switzerland
82cut

Venue: Room XVII, Palais des Nations, Geneva (in-person only)

Languages: English, French and Russian

The 85th session of the Committee on Urban Development, Housing and Land Management was held on 2–4 October 2024.

It supported regional exchange of experiences and good practices on promoting affordable, adequate and climate-neutral housing, including through a dedicated workshop of 2 October that addressed challenges and priorities regarding housing affordability in the UNECE region. As a follow-up, the key messages of the workshop will be conveyed to a ministerial meeting initially scheduled to be held on 8 October 2025, as part of the 86th Committee session.

The session also promoted inclusive, circular, smart and sustainable cities, as well as transparent and efficient land management.

The Committee welcomed the outcomes of the fourth meeting of the Forum of Mayors, “the Cities Summit of the Future” (Geneva, 30 September-1 October 2023), including the output document “Local and regional governments for a renewed and inclusive multilateralism for a sustainable future” (Annex II to ECE/HBP/2024/2)

The Committee endorsed Regional Guidelines for the Development of Voluntary Local Reviews (ECE/HBP/2024/7) to be subsequently issued as an official UN publication.

For a full account of the session’s outcomes, please see the report ECE/HBP/2024/2 (under the tab “Official documents”).
