UN legal instruments developed under the UNECE auspices have assisted many countries in developing and enforcing traffic rules and measures and improving road safety management system; producing safe road vehicles; reducing the risk during the transport of dangerous goods and hazardous materials; and ensuring that only safe and well-maintained vehicles and competent drivers can participate in traffic.
Having in mind that Bosnia and Herzegovina is committed to take action to improve road safety performance records and improve implementation of UN road safety-related legal instruments, the Ministry of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina (MCT BiH) has requested UNECE to provide assistance in strengthening national road safety capacities. Furthermore, in September 2019, UNDP BiH signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MCT BiH to provide a framework and facilitate cooperation in the process of development of the draft BiH Framework Road Safety Strategy for 2021-2025 (FRSS). Technical cooperation activities provided by UNECE and UNDP BiH included organization of capacity development workshops, assistance to MCT BiH in preparation of the draft BiH Framework Road Safety Strategy for 2021-2025 (FRSS) and preparation of analysis/road map for accession and efficient implementation of the 1997 Agreement.
The aim of the workshop is to strengthen knowledge of road safety stakeholders on efficient implementation of the 1997 Agreement, especially on Periodic Technical Inspection and Roadside Technical Inspection. The workshop will take stock on current international legal framework (UN and EU) for PTI and RTI and provide information how to update national legislation to be in full conformity with 1997 Agreements. National representatives will present best practice in Periodical Technical Inspection and Roadside Technical Inspection and how to keep national legislation updated.
