This technical workshop is part of the project: “Sustainable hydrogen production in the UNECE region and its role in the development of a hydrogen ecosystem and export potential”. The project is based on the premise that hydrogen could transmit up to 24% of the world’s energy by 2050, and is aimed to help countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia to develop their national hydrogen action plans and accelerate the needed action.
This project builds on to-date activities of UNECE Task Force on Hydrogen and the Technology Brief on Hydrogen. During the project launch we reviewed global experiences in accelerating transition to hydrogen-based society, and discussed how to jumpstart hydrogen production and export potential of CIS countries. While the December webinar was policy and strategy oriented, this workshop will focus on technical aspects of sustainable hydrogen production.
Workshop objectives:
To help countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia harness potential of hydrogen production and trade and develop a regional hydrogen ecosystem. During this workshop experts will:
- Review methods to produce sustainable hydrogen (electrolysis, pyrolysis, biomass, fossil with CCUS)
- Discuss cost and technical performance of various hydrogen production pathways in CIS countries
- Identify economic, technical, policy and investment barriers to hydrogen projects
- Review latest developments in hydrogen taxonomy and their impact on CIS countries
