Every four years, UNECE/FAO reviews its integrated programme of work to ensure that it reflects the needs and priorities of member States and regional economic integration organizations. On the basis of the review, Governments and stakeholders are consulted to decide on the strategic direction of the future work.
The Integrated Programme of Work for the period 2022-2025 was adopted by the joint session of the Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry (COFFI) and the European Forestry Commission (EFC) in Rome, Italy in November 2021 following a strategic review.
The overall goal of the Integrated Programme of Work is to “support member States and regional economic integration organizations in their efforts to sustainably manage forests so that they provide goods and services to benefit society”.
The Programme scope covers topics related to forests, sustainable forest management and the forest sector including forest resources and forest products markets. It also addresses issues related to climate change mitigation and adaptation, how the forest sector can contribute to the transition to a circular, bio-economy, sustainable forest management and the linkages between sustainable forest management and opportunities for the development of innovative products and applications.
The Integrated Programme of Work aims to help member States and regional economic integration organizations to achieve the overall goal by providing the best available information, facilitating policy dialogues and communication, and building capacity.
