The Sub-regional Conference on strategic environmental assessment in Central Asia was organized on 10 November 2021. It was built on the results of the joint OSCE/UNECE project “Strengthening national and regional capacities and co-operation on strategic environmental assessment (SEA) in Central Asia, including as a response to climate change” and the UNECE legislative and capacity-building assistance to Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in environmental impact assessment. The aim of the sub-regional conference was to exchange experiences and discuss challenges and lessons learned in establishing environmental impact assessment and strategic environmental assessment systems in the Central Asian countries and to identify priority actions for the next steps for each beneficiary country and at a sub-regional level. The representatives of each Central Asian country (including governmental officials of planning and environmental authorities) were gathered together in one place in each country and took part in online event through teleconferencing facilities (video bridge format).
