The Conference of the Parties considered the fourth report on implementation and decided to strengthen the implementation of the Convention. The Parties also requested the Working Group on Implementation to evaluate the reporting format for the implementation of the Convention, so that the assessment would be more focused on the progress achieved by countries.
The Conference of the Parties reviewed the accomplishments of the preparatory phase of the Assistance Programme and the key activities in the implementation phase. The Parties accepted new countries to the implementation phase and adopted a Strategic Approach to identify the needs of countries participating in the Assistance Programme.
The Conference of the Parties entrusted the Bureau, together with the Bureau of the Water Convention, to elaborate and implement a strategy for the Joint ad hoc Expert Group on Water and Industrial Accidents to improve its functioning.
Finally, the Conference of the Parties welcomed the introduction of the web-based application for the Industrial Accidents Notification System. The Parties also reviewed the implementation of the 2007-2008 activities and decided on the priorities, the programme of work and the resources for 2009-2010.
