The third meeting of the Inter-Institutional Working Group on Tailings Safety and the Prevention of Accidental Water Pollution in Kazakhstan was organized by the International Water Assessment Centre, with the support of UNECE. The Convention’s Secretariat contributed by sharing expertise on tailings management and promoting transboundary cooperation to improve industrial safety in the face of climate change. Through its presentations, UNECE emphasized the importance of aligning Kazakhstan's safety policies with international standards and enhancing resilience to climate-induced risks. The secretariat also introduced a future Project on improving climate knowledge and disaster risk governance for mine tailings facilities in Central Asia (2025–2028).
