From Documents to Data in Trade: Accelerating Adoption and Fostering Digital and Green Transformations

02 October 2023 15:30 - 17:00
UNESCAP Bangkok Thailand

Introduction

With over half of the G7 (by GDP) now aligned to the Model Law on Electronic Transferable Records (MLETR), the momentum on digital trade is clear.  There is broad agreement that digital trade could boost trade and underpin a shift toward sustainable, inclusive growth, if only we could drive convergence towards global digital standards, as the key to interoperability across networks, countries, and systems.

What can be done to speed the harmonisation and alignment of rules and standards, while driving adoption on the ground? What are the key stumbling blocks that need to be overcome in order to smooth the transition from “documents to data” and how should these be addressed?  Are there models for public/private partnership that should be considered?
