The two-day sub regional Workshop was organised by the secretariat of the UNECE Protocol on Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers to the Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters and by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
The Workshop promoted the implementation and ratification of the Pollutant Release Transfer Registers (PRTR) Protocol in South-Eastern Europe (SEE) by improving knowledge of legal, institutional and technical requirements, identifying key players and technical and capacity building specific needs in order to facilitate the provision of more targeted support for introducing PRTRs in the region.
The Workshop brought together representatives from national authorities responsible for PRTRs, chemical and waste management, water, land air and health protection. It also gathered representatives of industry, Aarhus Centres and non-governmental organizations from South Eastern Europe and Israel and experts working on PRTRs within different countries of the UNECE region and with international governmental organizations.
