World Habitat Day at Palais des Nations

Over 30 years ago, the United Nations General Assembly designated the first Monday in October as World Habitat Day to promote the idea that everyone deserves a decent place to live.

On 2 October 2017, the UNECE Committee on Housing and Land Management organized, in cooperation with its partners, activities to celebrate the World Habitat Day to promote affordable, adequate and sustainable housing for all through the Geneva UN Charter on Sustainable Housing and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This year the Committee also celebrated its 70th anniversary. The events included an Urban Breakfast, and Exhibition and Lunch Reception.

 

Urban Breakfast, Room VIII

The Urban Breakfast discussed the implementation of the New Urban Agenda and the urban dimension of the SDG’s in the UNECE region.

13:30-14:30

Mr. Michael Møller, Director-General, United Nations Office at Geneva, Ms. Olga Algayerova, UNECE Executive Secretary, and Ms. Sharmishta Sivaramakrishnan, Photographer and author of the exhibition ‘Geneva: The Habitats Within’, were speakers on the occasion of the World Habitat Day.
