The fifth session of the Methane Mondays series was titled: “The application of United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) to Coal Bed Methane (CBM).”
The focus of the meeting was on the draft of the UNFC Guidance for Application to CBM. An issue of integrating Coal Mine Methane and Coalbed Methane with circular economy, giving special attention to financing and policy obstacles which currently make such integration difficult was also discussed .
Issues and topics addressed at the meeting were as follows:
- Presentation of the draft UNFC Guidance for Application to CBM (please see the draft of the Guidance in the Documents section at the botom of the page)
- Relevance of the CBM-related matters to UNFC
- Examples of national regulations and markets for CBM
- CBM: a climate pollutant or a resource – reserves vs. dangerous waste – should we use that methane or leave it in the ground?
- What regulations are needed to enable an efficient, profitable, and environmentally friendly use of CBM – is it possible?
