Side event to the 66th Session of the ECE Commission

The United Nations Office in Geneva (UNOG) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) organized a workshop aimed to discuss challenges and priorities in housing and urban development in the UNECE region. The workshop also discussed the preparations to the HABITAT III Conference (2016) and where the New Urban Agenda addressing commitments for sustainable urban development was expected to be adopted. The workshop was organized as a side event to the 66th session of the ECE Commission.

The interactive workshop had live tweets and engaged with online audiences using the hashtags #UNECE2015 and #sustainablecities.

The workshop included a keynote speech by Saskia Sassen, the Robert S. Lynd Professor of Sociology and Chair of the Committee on Global Thought, Columbia University (www.saskiasassen.com). The keynote speech was followed by a panel discussion of speakers representing governments and international organisations.
