E-mobility plays a pivotal role in the green transformation by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, and reliance on fossil fuels. The shift to electric vehicles (EVs) can significantly lower the carbon footprint of transportation and improve air quality, particularly in urban areas. By promoting the use of renewable energy for EV charging, e-mobility further minimizes the environmental impact of transportation. Supporting the widespread adoption of EVs, along with the development of necessary infrastructure and policies, is crucial for advancing a more sustainable and interconnected future.
In recognition of this, the UNECE Sustainable Transport and Sustainable Energy subprogrammes have jointly established an E-mobility Task Force in the framework of the Working Party on Transport Trends and Economics (WP.5). The insights from the Workshop on Supporting Electric Mobility as Enabler of Digital and Green Transformations in the UNECE Region will directly contribute to the work of the Task Force, helping drive progress towards a greener, more sustainable transportation ecosystem.
This capacity-building workshop will be held in Istanbul and online on 27-28 November 2024. The event will be organized to provide policymakers from Türkiye, South-Eastern Europe, Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia with access to practical skills, tools, and insights for accelerating e-mobility adoption. Through case studies and best practice examples, participants will gain hands-on knowledge of key strategies and solutions.
The workshop themes include:
- Post-COP29 Reflections and UNECE Member States` Commitments for E-Mobility
- Best Practices in Public Policy aimed at Incentivising E-Mobility Across the UNECE Region
- Scaling E-Mobility: Prioritizing Different Modes of Transport
- Impact on the Energy System and Renewable Energy Integration
- Roles of Utilities, Governments, and Stakeholders in EV Charging Ecosystems
