A Society for All Ages: Challenges and Opportunities

A Society for All Ages: Challenges and Opportunities

06 - 08 November 2007
León Spain

The 2007 UNECE Ministerial Conference on Ageing reviewed the implementation of the UNECE Regional Implementation Strategy (RIS) of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA). Since the Strategy was adopted in 2002, the period of the so-called "demographic bonus" has approached its end in most countries of the UNECE region and the need to adjust to demographic change has become more acute. The Conference considered the findings of national reviews, shared experiences and good practices and identified priorities for future action. The Conference also adopted a Ministerial Declaration entitled "A Society for All Ages: challenges and opportunities.

PREPARATORY PROCESS

In the first five-year cycle of the global review and appraisal of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA), the UN Commission for Social Development invited regional commissions to convene regional conferences to consider the findings of national reviews, share experiences and good practices, and identify priorities for future action. In the UNECE region, the Government of Spain has proposed to organize and host the UNECE Ministerial Conference on Ageing in León from 6 to 8 November 2007.
