Small Group on the Industrial Safety of the Energy Transition: first (inaugural) meeting of the 2023-24 biennium

11 December 2023

Online only

The energy transition is essential for the success of the decarbonization agenda. Due to the scale and speed with which the transition process is unfolding regionally and worldwide, new challenges and needs for strengthening the transition’s industrial safety dimensions emerge.  In recognizing the growing needs of member States in this critical domain, the Industrial Accidents Convention’s Bureau at its fifty-third meeting decided, among other things, as a first step to establish a “Small Group on the Industrial Safety of the Energy Transition (ISET)”, to lead further work in this area, with the support of the secretariat.

The Small Group on the Industrial Safety of the Energy Transition, comprised of members of the Industrial Accidents Convention’s Bureau, held its inaugural meeting on 11 December 2023. The discussions and decisions of its inaugural meeting covered issues of scope and governance, deliverables and timelines, partnerships and resources. The second meeting of the Group is planned for spring 2024.
