The second session of the meeting of the Parties to the UNECE Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters – the Aarhus Convention – was organized at the kind invitation of Ms. Aitkul Samakova, Minister of Environmental Protection of Kazakhstan, on behalf of the Government of Kazakhstan. The meeting took place in Almaty on 25-27 May 2005.
The meeting was an important milestone in the evolution of the Aarhus process, providing an opportunity both to review the progress achieved in the Convention’s implementation and to reflect on and plan for the challenges that lie ahead - see Key outcomes (below)
The Ministerial segment of the meeting took place on Friday 27 May 2005, and culminated in the adoption of the Almaty Declaration (ENG FRE RUS).
