On 12 January 2022, the Special Envoy launched, along with the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development of Zimbabwe, Mr. F.T. Mhona (MP) the performance review findings for Zimbabwe on its current road safety challenges and recommendations for road safety improvements. Four priority interventions were agreed between the ECE and the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and confirmed by national stakeholders, respectively: (a) Road Safety Management strengthening; (b) Increase capacity of the National Road Safety Lead Agency; (c) Road Crash Database, improving statistical indicators and disaggregated data, and (d) Post-Crash Care Response and Coordination System (establishment of lead coordinating agency).
Lastly on the way forward, a 10-year national road safety strategy and action plan are recommended to improve road safety in Zimbabwe. More than 80 participants attended the launch, in person or online, as it was held in hybrid format from Harare, Zimbabwe.
