Workshop on Best Practice Guidance for Effective Methane Drainage and Use in Coal Mines 4 October 2016

The main purpose of the workshop in Karaganda, Kazakhstan, was to attract attention to and discuss the most critical problems faced in deep mines operated in Karaganda coal basin and to present potential solutions to them drawing from the best international practice in CMM.

In order to arrange the event in a way that would address the coalmine gas management issues relevant to the local mining conditions in the most suitable manner, the Survey was prepared and distributed among CMM specialists operating in the underground mines of Karaganda region.

All the presentations delivered during the workshop were well-received and followed up with active discussion. The local CMM specialists, despite having reached high proficiently in implementation of different drainage techniques, displayed a great interest in cooperation with their international counterparts with whom they discussed specific problems characteristic to the particular conditions in which they operate. Consequently, the workshop proved much needed and widely appreciated by the participants as it provided them with a convenient platform for open discussion and exchange of experiences.

The workshop attracted much of the local media attention and was followed with number of articles in local press and electronic media:“Industrial Karaganda” (newspaper)
