The war in Ukraine and the chain of events that started on 24 February drastically altered the environment in which the Committee on Sustainable Energy operates. Priorities such as security of supply, system resilience, subsidies, prices, and coal are again on the front burner in most UNECE member States.
In response to new circumstances, the high-level segment of the 31st session of the Committee on Sustainable Energy, held on 21 September 2022, discussed how to achieve greater energy security, affordability, and net-zero at the same time. To this end, the Committee decided to host a series of dialogues on resilient energy systems to facilitate an exchange among member States, academia, technical experts, and industry.
This first-in-a-series of energy resilience dialogues is organized by the UNECE Group of Experts on Gas. Devoted to the future of gas supply in Europe, the event will explore:
- Possible interruptions in the gas supply to Europe
- Rebalancing Europe’s energy gas supplies
- Mapping alternative supplies for natural gas
- Security of supply and climate agenda
