Regional workshop on guidelines and best practices for MSMEs in sustainable resource management and critical raw material supply.

Hybrid (Geneva and online)

08 October 2021 10:00 - 11:30

Under the UNDA Project Global Initiative towards post-Covid-19 resurgence of the MSME sector

Organizers: UNECE in cooperation with ESCWA

As the world races to "build back better" from the Covid-19 pandemic, the need for natural resources to support sustainable energy, mobility and digital transitions remains paramount. Several hitherto neglected critical raw materials will be required in vast quantities to support the transitions.  The role of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) in supporting the economic resiliency and the move to new business models such as "energy and resources as a service" needs careful consideration. The United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) and United Nations Resource Management System (UNRMS) provide the framework for harmonizing the approaches for utilizing the available natural resource-base for sustainable development. The workshop will discuss the exchange of experience in implementing guidelines and best practices for MSMEs to assure resiliency and progress towards a circular economy in sustainable resource management and critical raw material supply chain solutions.
