EFDRR Featured Session - Preventing another Sandoz, Baia Mare or Beirut accident: Perspectives on risk management in the context of the Sendai Framework

The European Forum on Disaster Risk Reduction (EFDRR) will take place in Matosinhos, Portugal and online, 24-26 November 2021.

The UNECE Industrial Accidents Convention, in cooperation and co-organization with OECD, EIB, Norway and Slovenia, is organizing a featured session on chemical and industrial risk management that will take place on 24 of November, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m CET in the framework of EFDRR. The featured session is titled Preventing another Sandoz, Baia Mare or Beirut accident: Perspectives on risk management in the context of the Sendai Framework and aims to integrate good practice in managing risks related to industrial and chemical hazard into the implementation of the Sendai Framework. Beyond the featured session on 24 November, UNECE is contributing to the organization of a plenary session on Accelerating implementation of the Sendai Framework for DRR and the EFDRR Roadmap 2021 – 2030, and to a working session on climate change adaptation and DRR. These sessions will reflect the perspectives of the Industrial Accidents Convention concerning technological risk management, Natural Hazards Triggered Technological Accidents (Natech), transboundary risks, governance and the central role for accident prevention in risk management.
