The 2024 Global Methane Forum convened global thought and industry leaders in Geneva, Switzerland from 18-21 March 2024 to promote replicable methane mitigation successes and mobilize action to continue making progress toward addressing methane. The Forum was hosted by the Global Methane Initiative (GMI) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in partnership with the Global Methane Hub and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC).

Participants followed three separate thematic tracks on methane emissions from the coal mines, oil and gas, and bio-gas sectors.

The Plenary
On Tuesday, 19 March, all attendees gathered for a cross-cutting plenary session featuring high-level speakers from governments, international organizations, and industry. (Please see the agenda for the session)
UNECE Events
Within the framework of the Forum, the UNECE Sustainable Energy Division held annual sessions of two Expert Groups, namely on:
- Coal Mine Methane and Just Transition (19th session) (18-19 March), and
- Gas (11th session) (20-21 March).

GMI Events
The Forum featured a meeting of GMI Steering Committee, as well as sessions of the three GMI Sub-committees, on:
- Biogas,
- Coal, and
- Oil and Gas.

Logistics
Apart from the plenary meeting (Tuesday 19 March) and the events related to biogas, which were held in hybrid mode (i.e. in person and online), all the remining sessions were in person only.
