A full-day-long seminar titled Coal Mine Methane as a Valuable Energy Source was held within the framework of the XXVIII School of Underground Mining organized by the Mineral and Energy Economy Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Science and the Department of the Underground Mining of the AGH University of Science and Technology.

The seminar was delivered by the International Centre of Excellence on CMM in Poland, the UNECE Group of Experts on CMM, and the Global Methane Initiative (GMI).

It had a form of match-making event between the Colombian stakeholders on the one hand, and the international experts and equipment producing companies on the other.

The first part of the session consisted of presentations by the Colombian regulators and practitioners, as well as the international experts with experience of working on CMM projects in Colombia, describing the local methane-related challenges in the Country.

The second part featured presentations by the international experts and equipment producing companies, responding to the needs indicated by the Colombian speakers, and explaining how given issues are addressed in other states.

During the event an important agreement on cooperation for implementation of a Polish pre-mine drainage project "Geometan" was signed between the Polish Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG) and the Polish Mining Group (PGG). The Ceremony was attended by the management of both Companies, as well as by the representatives of the Polish Authorities.
