On 27 April 2018, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) are jointly organizing a briefing on

the eighth session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention).

Planned in Astana, from 10 to 12 October 2018, the eighth session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Water Convention will be a high-level international event gathering more than 400 representatives of Ministries responsible for water, foreign affairs and development cooperation - from both Parties and non-Parties to the Convention - together with joint bodies, international and non-governmental organizations and academia from all regions of the world. It will be a milestone event in the Convention’s evolution as the first Meeting of the Parties held in Asia and with participation of the first Parties from Africa.

The briefing presented to permanent missions in Geneva and to other partners the Meeting of the Parties, in terms of topics to be discussed, main outcomes expected and decisions to be taken.
