The sixth Ministerial Conference "Environment for Europe" will be held in Belgrade (Serbia), on 10-12 October 2007.

On the first day of the Conference, a Joint Session of Environment and Education Ministers will take place. The Session will focus on progress made and challenges encountered in the implementation of the UNECE Strategy for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and identify ways to improve the effectiveness of ESD implementation in the UNECE region and globally. The Strategy serves as an effective tool for the implementation of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development across the region.

Ministers are also expected to adopt a joint statement outlining the strategic direction for the further implementation of the Strategy. It will be the first time in the history of this process that Ministers from two sectors come together for a joint decision, giving an encouraging signal for other sectors to cooperate and make sustainable development a reality.
