The consultative meeting, which gathered representatives from Kenya and Uganda, made it possible to:
- Agree on set of principles, pillars and project prioritisation criteria to be proposed at the 2nd SMM Stakeholders’ workshop (core elements of the Draft Basin Investment Framework);
- Agree on elements of the draft roadmap for the development of a full Basin Investment Strategy to be further discussed at the 2nd SMM Stakeholder’s workshop;
- Agree on a set of functions for the future institutional mechanism to be proposed at the 2nd SMM Stakeholders’ workshop;
- Assess the extent to which the current options for the future institutional mechanism would be able to carry out the required functions.
The workshop was organized under the framework of the project “Strengthening trans-boundary water governance and cooperation in the IGAD region”, jointly implemented by IGAD Secretariat in partnership with IUCN, UNECE and the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs (OES) of the United States Department of State.
