On 14 April 2021, the Special Envoy participated in an online meeting with the Kenyan Inter-Ministerial Committee on Action for Road Safety, which was established by H.E. Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta, President of Kenya, in November 2020. The following Government officials joined the discussion: H.E. Ms. Amina Mohamed, Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage; H.E. Mr. Fred Matiang’i, Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government; H.E. Mr. James Macharia, Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development and Public Works; and representatives from the National Transport and Safety Authority of Kenya.
The Special Envoy took the opportunity to follow-up on the issues raised during his last visit to the country in November 2020. Therefore, the Special Envoy urged all Ministries to take action towards building a new National Road Safety Plan 2020-2030, with target to decrease road victims by 50% during the second Decade.
