Subject: Draft Revised UNFC-2008 and Draft Accompanying Explanatory Note From: State Commission of Ukraine on Mineral Resources

27 January 2009
Dear Colleagues!
We became acquainted with the United Nations Framework Classification 2008 with great interest. It seems that the reached brevity already guarantees its simplicity and easiness in further application.
We think that such an approach could be proceeded, as the attempts to make definitions of categories and especially sub-categories more detailed unavoidably contradict with the established conventional concepts and definitions, which are applied from one side to different minerals and from the other side to separate national and corporate classifications.
Following the fundamental principle of global classification – ensuring its "umbrella effect" or its ability to unite national classifications without making any amendments, we introduce a number of propositions, which in our view will simplify classification and increase its comparability and combinability with the national classifications as follows:
  1. To designate building blocks of classes in Fig.l as: 121, 122, 211, 331, 332 and 333, which are widely used for solids as well as for fluids.
  2. To exclude characteristics of projects from the legend.
  3. To exclude Fig.2 and associated with this figure explanations.
  4. To exclude Fig.3 and associated with this figure explanations.
  5. To leave definitions of categories in all Annexes, but to exclude definitions of subcategories and comments.

Our proposed draft simplified classification is available to view:
