Road Maps for Mainstreaming Ageing
Road Maps provide a guide for countries to deliver on their commitment to implementing the Madrid International Plan of Action and its Regional Implementation Strategy (MIPAA and RIS). Road Maps are developed upon the request by member States using a comprehensive participatory process: not only the Government but also civil society, academia, the private sector and of course older people themselves are consulted so that the recommendations made reflect the views of all sectors of society. They identify concrete actions tailored to the economic, social, cultural and political specificities of the country. So far, road maps have been prepared for Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, and the Republic of Moldova.
Promoting the participation of older person and civil society in policymaking
Strengthening the voice and agency of older persons in decisions that affect them is essential to fulfil the 2030 Agenda’s pledge of leaving no-one behind. In 2021, UNECE organized an online workshop in partnership with national and regional civil society organizations which attracted close to 200 participants. The aim was to inform about and promote the meaningful participation of older persons and civil society organisations that represent them in policymaking, monitoring and evaluation, including in the periodic national reviews and appraisals of MIPAA/RIS implementation. A guidance note for designing a stakeholder engagement and participation process for the meaningful participation of older persons and civil society was prepared as a capacity-development tool.
