Review paper by SDMX sponsors
SDMX initiative
The Bureau reviewed the Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange (SDMX) initiative in February 2007, and encouraged organization of capacity building workshops and use of existing meetings to spread awareness of SDMX. The Bureau considered further development of the SDMX standards and tools important.
Outcome of the review
Regular UNECE/Eurostat/OECD work sessions on statistical metadata have discussed SDMX tools and their implementation. The 2010 Work Session was held back-to-back with the OECD Expert Group on Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange (SDMX).
The CES Statistical Metadata (METIS) Steering Group has prepared a series of guidelines in the Common Metadata Framework and UNECE maintains a wiki on Statistical Metadata.
Related initiatives
The High-level Group for the Modernisation of Official Statistics (HLG-MOS) leads the development of the way of producing official statistics. The results of this work include the development of standards, such as the Generic Statistical Business Process Model (GSBPM), the Generic Statistical Information Model (GSIM) and the Common Statistical Production Architecture. Other standards, such as the Data Documentation Initiative (DDI) are also becoming increasingly popular in statistical organisations.
