The Ninth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development will be held in Kyiv on 12-15 November 2018 (Congress and Exhibition Centre "Parkovy", 16a Park Road). The Forum is co-organized by the Government of Ukraine and the five United Nations Regional Commissions in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), UN Environment, The World Bank, International Energy Agency (IEA), International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Global Environment Facility (GEF), Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), European Commission, International Energy Charter, International Energy Forum (IEF), the Copenhagen Centre on Energy Efficiency, International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental Safety, and Energy Technology UMSICHT, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), Dartmouth College, Climate Action Network (CAN), Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI) and the World Nuclear Association (WNA).

This year's Forum will follow up on the recommendations from the previous meetings – the Eighth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development held in June 2017 in Astana and the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in July 2018 in New York. It will combine an opening ministerial session with plenary sessions and parallel workshops in four main tracks:

  • Energy transition and decarbonization
  • Robust systems and infrastructure
  • Matchmaking and investor confidence and
  • Hot topics and deep dives.

The Forum's goal is to provide a unique opportunity for policymakers and experts from various parts of the energy sector to reflect on the implications of the fast-paced energy transition that has become the new normal, review the activities to date and to make further progress towards meeting the sustainable development goals.

The Forum will include the annual sessions of the UNECE Group of Experts on Energy Efficiency and Group of Experts on Renewable Energy.
