The increased movement of people across international borders has brought the issue of migrant integration to the forefront of national polices.  International migration can have great societal and economic impacts, both positive and negative, on both individuals and countries of origin and destination, particularly when viewed through the lens of time.  Thus, improved measurement of the socioeconomic conditions of migrants is needed to better improve our knowledge about these conditions.  

At the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the Conference of European Statisticians established a task force to undertake methodological work on how to better measure the socio-economic conditions of migrants. Particular attention was placed on the issue of changes in migrant conditions over time, including ways to conduct longitudinal analysis. This publication contains methodological guidance on how to better measure the socio-economic conditions of migrants, including a review and recommendation of possible indicators for the demographic, education, economic, and social and civic participation dimensions.
