The Global Platform for Disaster Reduction was established in 2007 as a biennial forum for information exchange, discussion of latest development and knowledge and partnership building across sectors, with the goal to improve implementation of disaster risk reduction through better communication and coordination amongst stakeholders.

This fourth session will be held in Geneva on 21-23 May 2013. It is expected to include a featured event on Disasters Without Borders on 21 May, as well as a side-event on Reducing Disaster Risk of Environmental Emergencies on 23 May, to be organized jointly by Green Cross International (GCI), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)/DTIE, Joint UNEP/OCHA Environment Unit and UNECE -- see side-event flyer.
