1. “Material footprint” means the sum of the total amount of all raw materials extracted
2. “MF” is the attribution of global material extraction to domestic final demand, hence is given in absolute tons, in t per person, or in t per GDP
3. MFs quantify the demand for all material extractions (biomass, metal ores, non-metallic minerals and fossil energy ...), regardless of where it takes place worldwide
4. “MF” provides a consumption perspective of resource use and new insights into the actual resource productivity of nations, including all chains.
