World Day of Remembrance of Traffic Victims

The road safety community supported the 20th World Day of Remembrance of road traffic victims on 15 November, an initiative created by the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims (FEVR) and adopted by the United Nations in 2005.

The objective of this commemoration is to honor the memory of the people killed and injured on the world's roads, their families and the many others who are also affected and to raise the awareness of worldwide public opinion on the dangers of car crashes, which kill 1.25 million people around the world each year and injure between 20 and 50 million more people.

“Too many people die on the roads every year, but road fatalities are the biggest pandemics that we know how to cure. No one should have to suffer the tragic loss of their loved ones on their way to work, home, or to school. Every fatality is one too many and we must keep doing everything we can to increase safety”, said Jean Todt, UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety.
