The toolkit can be used by gender statistics focal points and others to run training sessions to increase statistical literacy and awareness of the importance of gender in statistics, which should strengthen evidence-based policymaking.
The materials may be downloaded and adapted – for instance, by replacing the illustrative examples with national data, or by making reference to national sources and organizations. Please cite UNECE when adapting these materials for use in your own workshops or publications.
The toolkit is available in English and Russian.
The development and testing of the toolkit was funded from the United Nations Development Account.
The toolkit consists of six main thematic modules:
- Basic skills in gender statistics
- Measuring the population
- Measuring work and economic activity
- Education and training
- Power and decision-making in society
Each module includes:
- short, user-friendly descriptions of key concepts and key indicators
- practical examples
- hands-on exercises for use in training sessions.
The toolkit also includes five template PowerPoint presentations with examples from countries of Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia. See also some adaptations of the modules for use in workshops co-organized by UNECE and the respective national statistical offices in the Republic of Moldova (2015), Kazakhstan (2017) and Kyrgyzstan (2018).
