Mission to Bangkok, Thailand, 21-23 November 2022

Thailand: A middle-income country with a population of 69.95 million. According to the WHO, Thailand has the highest rate in the Southeast Asia Region. Thailand has acceded to 1 out of 7 UN road safety legal instruments.

The Special Envoy participated in the opening of the 7th Session of the ESCAP Committee on Transport and its high-level roundtable. On its margins, the Special Envoy also delivered remarks at the inauguration ceremony of the side exhibition on road safety.

Moreover, the Special Envoy contributed to the opening of the International Transport Forum Regional High-Level Dialogue for Asia.

 

During the mission, the Special Envoy met with the following officials towards advocating for safer roads in the country:
•    Mr. Chayatan Phromsorn, Permanent Secretary, Minister of Transport;
•    Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, Permanent Secretary, Minister of Public Health;
•    Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary, ESCAP;
•    UNCT Thailand;
•    Delegation from the national road safety network;
•    Delegation from the Young President Organization.

Lastly, on the occasion of the Special Envoy’s visit to the country, H.E. Mr. Thierry Mathou hosted a event towards strengthening the Friends of the Special Envoy for Road Safety Network in the region.
