Jeremy Webb Comments on the "Specifications for the Application of the United Nations Framework Classification for Fossil Energy and Mineral Reserves and Resources 2009 (UNFC-2009) to Renewable Energy Resources"
19 September 2014
I am currently with the African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).  I was previously with the African Climate Policy Centre (ACPC) of UNECA and before that I was with the United Nations Statistics Division working on issues of water as well as renewable energy.
Professor Aberra Mogessie sent me an email notifying me of the very interesting and important work you are doing on "Generic Specifications for Application of the United Nations Framework Classification for Fossil Energy and Mineral Reserves and Resources 2009 (UNFC-2009) to Renewable Energy Resources".  I have a special interest in this area and have previously done some work looking at how the Modified McKelvey Box can be applied to renewable energy in New Zealand (see attachment).
I should mention that I have previously communicated with the UNECE secretariat in 2006 regarding the possibility of applying the work of the Ad Hoc Group of Experts on Harmonization of Fossil Energy and Mineral Resources Terminology to renewable energy.
I am sorry for being late, but please see attached my comments on the excellent "Specifications for the Application of the United Nations Framework Classification for Fossil Energy and Mineral Reserves and Resources 2009 (UNFC-2009) to Renewable Energy Resources".  This represents great progress on the issue and is a very exciting milestone.
I have only done a little bit of work in this area recently, but would very much like to have the opportunity to join the Expert Group on Resource Classification (EGRC) and contribute to the work of the group.  I think there are some real opportunities to utilise the recommendations for wider environmental accounting, for example at the national level.
