This study aims to achieve a better understanding of the present legal position on the attitudes to private ownership rights in land and other real property that prevail in the UNECE region. The study is based on replies from 31 countries and jurisdictions in Europe and North America. It provides a snapshot of legal situation with respect to restrictions of ownership, leasing, transfer and mortgaging of land (real estate) that has developed in the UNECE region by the beginning of the XXI century.
