The Bureau’s steering group on mine tailings safety – comprised of representatives of Austria, Germany, Norway, Serbia and Switzerland, and the Convention’s secretariat – convened to discuss a draft orientation paper on strengthening tailings safety within and beyond the UNECE region. The development of the paper was requested by the Conference of the Parties for consideration at its 12th meeting (29 November - 1 December 2022), with the request to include proposals for further actions under the Convention in the field of mine tailings safety, taking into account the activities of other international organizations.
