The Nexus Dialogue addressed the UNEA Resolution on Mineral Resource Governance (UNEP/EA.4/Res. 19), in a round table discussion for stakeholders to discuss policy messages from current governance frameworks, best practices from representative member states, recommendations and on-going capacity gaps on good governance across key mineral value chains. The results of the Nexus Dialogues will feed into the report on the implementation of the resolution, which will be presented to UNEA-5.
The secretary to the Industrial Accidents Convention contributed to the round table discussion, addressing mine tailings (including orphaned/abandoned sites), identifying current and future safety issues, natural disaster prevention, and preparedness measures required at site locations to decrease risk to the environment and surrounding communities.
