Third International Forum: Energy for Sustainable Development

The third International Forum: Energy for Sustainable Development is organized jointly by the Government of the Kyrgyzstan, UNECE, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). It will explore policies and legislation needed to support energy efficiency improvements and access to cleaner energy. Forum participants will discuss how to institute the necessary investment frameworks for energy efficiency and sustainable use of energy. Discussions will be enriched by presentations on relevant experiences and good practices from Europe, Asia and other regions of the world. Energy efficiency in buildings will be a prominent topic at the Forum.

Several thematic workshops will be organized in the framework of the Forum: 1) Policies and Legislation to Promote Energy Efficiency and Clean Energy Technologies in Central Asia; 2) Energy Efficiency in Buildings; 3) Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) in Advanced Fossil Fuel Technologies;  4) Case Studies on Energy Efficiency Financing and Promotion of Advanced Energy Efficiency Technologies.

The UNECE Committee on Housing and Land Management is organizing a full day workshop on Energy Efficiency in Buildings. Different sessions of this workshop will outline elements for a national strategy to realize the transformation to energy efficient building sector and discuss policy guidelines, tools and support networks to assist national governments in building the legal and financial framework for a move towards energy-efficient and sustainable buildings. Speakers at this workshop include representatives of international organizations, national governments, research and financial institutions.
