RESUMES the:
25th Session of the Committee on Sustainable Energy (28-30 September 2016, Geneva)
The prime objective of the 25th session of the Committee is to explore how to deliver on the national commitments in support of the Sustainable Development Goals and to discuss potential solutions to be agreed at an energy ministerial at the outset of the Eighth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development in Astana, Kazakhstan, on 11 June 2017.
On 28-30 September 2016 the Committee on Sustainable Energy engaged in a dialogue on concrete actions in the nexus area with environment and climate. The session provided an opportunity to discuss national action plans and holistic energy policy making, especially in the context of the role of fossil fuels in future sustainable energy systems. The Committee considered the proposal by the Governments of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan to endorse the concept and the process to lead to a ministerial outcome document (ECE/ENERGY/2016/9) and to optimize impact requested an informal, public, on-line consultations process. The consultation process is now closed. The results can be seen here.
The Committee on Sustainable Energy is invited to participate in the consultation process and to join the resumed session on 19 January 2017, which will conclude the considerations of Agenda items VI, IX to VII:
- Annotated provisional agenda for the twenty-fifth session (ECE/ENERGY/106)
- Proposed session structure (informal document CSE-25/2017.RES/INF.3)
- Report of the Committee on Sustainable Energy of its twenty-fifth session (ECE/ENERGY/107)
The Committee on Sustainable Energy is further invited to an Exhibition about Energy Transition in the UNECE Region. It will be shown from 9-24 January 2017 in the venue in front of Bar Serpent, Palais des Nations.
