World Mining Congress

20 June 2018
EXPO Congress Centre, Hall 6 Astana Kazakhstan

A one-day-long technical session on Coal Mine Methane (CMM) was delivered jointly by the Group of Experts on CMM and the Global Methane Initiative (GMI) within the framework of the 25th World Mining Congress (WMC).

The event titled Turning Coal Mine Methane into an Asset: Implementing Best Practices and Policies took place on 20 June 2018 in Hall 6 of the EXPO Congress Centre in Astana, Kazakhstan.

WMC is a major global mining industry’s event bringing together international specialists and scientists since 1958. The jubilee 25th edition titled Innovational Excellence as a step forward to world mining growth addressed such matters as geologic exploration, mining and processing, risk assessment, and international fundraising. It featured numerous thematic sessions covering a wide range of important issues that arise along the entire value chain of various solid mineral extractive industries. The Congress welcomed senior officials from different countries, leading international experts, investors, financial institutions, and renown universities.

The objective of the joint UNECE-GMI session was to disseminate and encourage implementation of best practices in CMM drainage and utilization, and to promote policies that facilitate development of CMM projects.
